What Happens Next?

Roxie, Valerie and Kendra, three old friends, meet for dinner at a local  bar and grill for what has become a frequent Thursday night happening.   Kendra brings along a buddy of hers, a man named Roy.

Roxie is the last one to arrive and orders a drink - the other three having already been served and all order appetizers to serve as a shared tapas meal.  The four of them are talking and eating - Valerie and Roy having discovered some mutual friends in common and Roxie and Kendra are talking about Kendra's pending move.  All, except Roxie, have their smart phones on the table, with several of them using them at various times during the meal.

As others are ordering more drinks, Roxie orders a decaf coffee.  Roxie and Kendra go back to talking and Kendra and Roxie are looking at pictures on Kendra's  smart phone when a text pops up:

Roy:  Roxie is a stiff.

What happens next?

  1. I have no idea what happened and I do hope you'll tell us.

If I was Kendra I would have been "WTF Roy?" I have no problem at all calling people out. Turn the stupidity right back at him!!!

  2. Well, you could have jumped up and started dancing on the table to prove him wrong. Or you could have stared him down with one brow arched until he apologized for having such abominable manners. You even could have called him a boorish cretan, but all indications are that he wouldn't have know what it means.

"No Texting at the Table" is a good rule.

  3. I saw a facebook remark about me and responded. After talking it over with my therapist, I had to apologize for the remark. To my daughter-in-law. Ouch. Hope your next move was smoother than mine.

  4. I'd be tempted to look him in the eye and ask "Stiff what?" Peoples use of smart phones is getting out of control. Texting someone while at the same table? No less sending disparaging remarks about another person AT THAT table?

I hope you embarrassed him to the point HE got up and left. The toad.

  5. I would like to say I would call him them out in a witty way to just defuse the awkwardness. In actuality I'm afraid I would just stuff the emotion and probably be a bit resentful.

  6. I think I would have responded with a snarky response. You are so witty I can't wait to hear what happened!?!

  8. My face got red and I got angry when I read this ..for you. no idea what i would do. I know that when people start pulling out smart phones and look at me like where is yours..I give my short spiel about how I buy a cheap little trackphone and turn it on when I need to make a call and turn it off when I'm finished. I'm availabe 50+ hrs a week for work. My free time is my own. It frustrates my friends but it frees my mind. All that to say , I wish if it were me, I would have been able to say ..'Uh, Roy, reading your test here man. " just to put him on the spot. he will feel like a fool.

  9. Can't wait to hear what you said. Roy is a jerk and an idiot. I know Roxie and Roxie is very cool and fun.

  10. Seriously?! A grown man texting something like that? So jr. high school. I'd probably react awkwardly and say nothing, but inside all the feelings of mistrust would get the best of me. I'd even feel betrayed by Kendra, but that's my history of having trust issues *sigh*

Knowing you, Roxie, I'm sure you handled it with uber-coolness; but I still can't wait to hear what.happened.next.

  11. I would have been totally caught off guard by that demonstration of rudeness and immaturity. Good god.

  12. I'm a bit late to this party, but my first response is WHA???? How completely awkward and uncomfortable I would be. Of course, giving in to those feelings would just prove Roy correct. I could prove him wrong - however, if I was just being 'me' and that wasn't good enough, then I'm not being genuine. Glad I don't have to wait for the rest of this story - headed there now...

  13. Wow. People amaze me... I will continue to catch up and hear the rest of the story!! I'm guessing you responded with ease or not at all because he is not worth it? :0)
